Genworks licensing now spans several distinct situations: open-source learning and research, royalty-backed closed-source distribution, hosted commercial evaluation, and legacy enterprise on-site deployment.
The Gendl kernel is freely available under the AGPL for learning, research, hobbyist work, and open-source application development. If you are happy to share source code under a compatible license, this is the simplest path into the stack.
Note: If you plan to create a competing KBE kernel, exposure to Gendl source code may create copyright concerns. Contact us to discuss alternatives.
If you want to distribute a closed-source application built on Gendl, you may not need to jump straight to the full legacy enterprise seat model. Some cases fit a royalty-based arrangement instead.
The current royalty program is based on quarterly reporting and a 5% royalty on revenue for applications using Gendl under AGPL exemption terms. See the live royalty page for the current process and reporting flow.
For organizations requiring closed-source development, installed commercial components, support, or production deployment, Genworks offers more than one commercial shape.
Designed for development teams and prototyping: AGPL exception for closed-source development, commercial support from Genworks, and Franz Allegro CL foundation. This is the development-oriented commercial path, not the runtime deployment license.
Designed for installed production deployment: Enterprise includes the broader commercial stack such as SMLib-based geometry options, CAD interfaces, runtime licensing, and priority support. This is the traditional on-site model and remains available.

Hosted professional offerings will eventually sit beside these installed licenses, with clearer online evaluation and paid upgrade paths.
Commercial licenses can include technical support, maintenance, bug fixes, and ongoing guidance. The exact package depends on whether you are using royalties, development seats, enterprise deployment seats, or future hosted offerings.
Cyclops is our first direct online checkout: clear price, host-bound license, payment, build, and download without a sales cycle. That low-friction pattern should expand where it makes sense.
Tell us whether you are learning in open source, need closed-source distribution, want professional online access, or require installed enterprise deployment. We can point you to the right commercial shape.
